Thor Morgan murder: Third person charged in relation to shooting death

Police have charged two people with murder, months after a man was shot in the head in dramatic scenes on a Toowoomba street. And police say there are more charges to come.

Second person charged with murder

Darling Downs detectives have charged 36-year-old Goondiwindi woman Tina Kathleen Hazard with murder as they vow to not stop until everyone involved in the shooting death of Thor Morgan is charged.

Hazard remained in the watch house when her case was mentioned in Toowoomba Magistrates Court with her solicitor Dylan Hans, of Hans Legal, telling the court she was not required to appear.

She is charged with murder, unlawful possession of weapons and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Mr Hans said his client’s co-accused Lachlan Mark Freund had been adjourned to September 6 and asked that Ms Hazard’s case be adjourned to the same date.

There being no application for bail, Magistrate Louise Shephard remanded Ms Hazard in custody and adjourned her matters to September 6 for committal mention.

The fresh arrest brings the total number of people charged in relation to the 25-year-old’s death to three.

Police allege Lachlan Mark Freund, 24, was in a stolen Ford Ranger ute that tracked Mr Morgan as he left his girlfriend’s Coonan Street home about 2.30am on March 15.

Mr Freund is alleged to have fired several rounds from a lever-action rifle, one of which hit Mr Morgan in the head as he drove along Ruthven Street near Downlands College.

Despite the wound Mr Morgan walked back to his girlfriend’s home where an ambulance was called.

He was taken to Toowoomba Hospital where doctors located a bullet lodged in his brain.

Mr Morgan survived for several months before he died in the Princess Alexandra Hospital on May 16.

Police charged Mr Freund with murder on August 18 after they found the suspected murder weapon at the bottom of the Condamine River on July 26.

Three days later they charged his partner Isobel Rose Higgins, 24, with being an accessory after the fact of murder.

Police allege she provided a false alibi to cover up Freund’s alleged role in the murder.

Freund is currently held on remand and is yet to enter a plea to the murder charge.

Higgins was released on bail and is yet to enter a plea.

The investigation has been long and drawn out, as police methodically worked to map the sequence of events that led to Mr Morgan’s death.

Darling Downs Detective Inspector Heath McQueen said police had more suspects lined up and his officers would pay them a visit in the coming days if they didn’t hand themselves in sooner.

“We believe there are still people in the community who have knowledge of what occurred on this evening and we would like them to come forward and provide us with information in relation to what they know,” he said.

“I do envisage there will be further arrests made in relation to this matter, what the people involved in this matter need to be aware of is that we don’t intend to go away, we will continue the investigation until we are satisfied that everyone culpable of this offence has been held accountable.”

“They may have been involved after the fact, they may have assisted in the offence, or attempted to assist people who were attempting to avoid being captured or they may have counselled the offence.

“They can continue to look over their shoulders for a very long time because this investigation is ongoing and we have no intention of stopping.”
