Police have arrested and charged a second person over the murder of 25-year-old Toowoomba man Thor Morgan.
Isobel Rose Higgins, 24, was arrested in Toowoomba on Thursday.
She faced Toowoomba Magistrates Court on the same day charged with being an accessory after the fact of murder.
The police prosecutor told the court that Ms Higgins was alleged to have provided police with a false alibi for her partner Lachlan Mark Freund, the man accused of shooting Mr Morgan in the head.
Ms Higgins’ lawyer asked the court to grant her bail, saying she was 29 weeks pregnant and that her pregnancy was considered high risk.
She was granted bail to October 13.
Darling Down Detective Inspector Heath McQueen said police had more suspects lined up and his officers would pay them a visit in the coming days if they didn’t hand themselves in sooner.
“I want to reach out to any persons that may have been involved in this offence, in and around it, or after it with assisting the offenders to get away with committing this act of murder,” he said.
“Take this opportunity to come forward and sit down with detectives and provide your version of the events.
“I anticipate that this will not be the last arrest we make.”
It is alleged Mr Morgan was tracked by Freund and at least one other man in a stolen Ford Ranger utility as he left his girlfriend’s Coonan Street home in Harlaxton about 2.50am on March 15.
Freund is alleged to have fired several rounds from the vehicle, one of which struck Mr Morgan in the head as he drove along Ruthven Street, near Downlands College.
Mr Morgan then walked back to his girlfriend’s home where an ambulance was called.
He was taken to Toowoomba Hospital where doctors located a bullet lodged in his brain.
Despite the horrific injury, Mr Morgan survived for several months before he died in the Princess Alexandra Hospital on May 16.
Police allege Freund and his co-accused drove the stolen Ford Ranger to Felton and torched it.
As part of a major investigation into the shooting of Mr Morgan, police dive squad officers recovered a firearm from a northern branch of the Condamine River on July 26, which police allege was the murder weapon.
The investigation has been long and drawn out involving multiple detectives from the Homicide Investigation Unit, the Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch, along with forensic officers, intel analysts and police divers.
“It has been an extensive investigation by the Darling Downs crime group and we don’t intend to stop anytime soon, until we hold everybody culpable in committing this offence,” Insp McQueen said.
Freund fronted Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with one count each of murder, arson of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of weapons.
He was remanded in custody to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on September 6 and is yet to enter a plea.
