A young Toowoomba man who was involved in a wild police chase days after he was released from prison has been freed from custody after pleading guilty to six crimes.

Lachlan Connor Cubby, 20, and three other young men went on a joy ride in multiple stolen cars which started at Toowoomba and ended at Millmerran after police deployed tyre spikes on February 7.

When Cubby appeared in Toowoomba Magistrates Court via video link on Wednesday, April 26, he pleaded guilty to two charges of unlawful use of a car, stealing, trespassing in a yard, and two charges of entering a dwelling with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Lawyer Claire Graham said during the spree, Cubby was not driving the stolen vehicles, and he intended to leave Toowoomba and start fresh once released from custody.

Mrs Graham also noted the Goondiwindi-born man started using drugs at age 16, but he was motivated to turn his life around and be a role model for his new girlfriend’s children.

Magistrate Kay Philipson sentenced Cubby to a nine month prison term with immediate release on parole, with 78 days spent in pre-sentence custody declared as time served.

Co-offender Eliah John Bligh, 18, pleaded guilty before the same court on February 10 and was placed on nine months’ probation with no convictions recorded.

The remaining alleged co-offenders, Kyaharlem Hazard, 19, and Kamahl Jeremy Scott Duncan, 21, are yet to be dealt with by the court.
