Queensland weather: Rain forecast halved as cool change blows in

A prediction for 100mm of rain in South-East Queensland this week won’t materialise, but it will still be a wet start to the week. SEE THE FORECAST

Storm outbreak dampening drought concerns for Queensland

Queensland’s 100ml heavy rain forecast has been downgraded, however the state’s southeast can still expected a wet start of the week with moderate showers.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s Felim Hanniffy said Queenslanders will be experiencing a “very unsettled week.”

“There will be a lot of cloud on Monday, with showers peaking overnight and into Tuesday – that will be the wettest period,” he said.

A weather trough coming in from the west will still bring much needed rain to the southeast and parts of the Darling Downs, with up to 50ml expected in some areas.

“The focus of the trough will be further west, with the possibility of storms.”

Mr Hanniffy said there is low risk of flash flooding in the southeast, rather the forecast will be “a shock to the system.”

“Most will view this as welcomed rain,” he added.

Mr Hanniffy said maximum temperatures will be below average, particularly during the first half of the week due to lots of cloud cover.

Cloud and showers will linger Wednesday and Thursday and will slowly ease towards the weekend.

The forecast rain is expected to dampen bushfires that have flared up again at Millmerran near Toowoomba, with residents of The Pines evactuated overnight.

A number of “leave immediately” warnings remain in place.
