A serious bushfire near Millmerran is continuing to burn for a second day as residents are told it’s not safe to return to their homes.
Residents were forced to leave the area late on Saturday night as fire crews battled a fast-moving blaze.
At 7:15pm on Saturday night, a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said a large grass fire began to threaten properties between Flamingo Road, Rosella Ave, Scrubby Creek Boondanilla Road to the Gore Highway.
QFES issued a ‘leave immediately’ warning at 11:51pm on Saturday night as they fought to contain the blaze, and at 2:00am Sunday morning residents were told it was not safe to return.
Another ‘leave immediately’ warning was issued at 8:59am on Sunday for properties between Flamingo Road, Rosella Avenue, Scrubby Creek Boondanilla Road to the Gore Highway.
A ‘stay informed’ warning was issued for Condamine Farms at 9:15am on Sunday.
Despite forecasts of rain, the south-west side of the fire was still surrounding some properties, but no structures have been lost.
A QFES spokesperson told The Courier-Mail the bushfire is still current and it is not safe for residents in The Pines to return to their homes.
Ten extra fire crews are on the way to the scene for another day of fighting the blaze.
