Southern Downs police are urging residents of the Rose City and surrounds to consider installing CCTV at their homes after a string of break-ins at the weekend.

Police allege six homes were broken into in the Mount Tabor and Condavale Estate areas within a period of several hours on Saturday evening.

It is believed five vehicles were stolen from properties in those areas, with the alleged assailants taking the keys from inside the home.

Police have since recovered three of the five stolen vehicles and would like to remind residents to be vigilant in ensuring their doors are locked and secured.

Southern Downs homes aren’t the only target for the cunning thieves targeting the region with a Warwick football club broken into last week.

Thieves managed to take off with a defibrillator from the club, a vital healthcare item for the safety of players, but club staff and the community.

Club president Shelly Doyle said the move was “heartbreaking” and was a sure kick in the guts for a community organisation trying their best and due to kick off their 2024 season in a matter of days.

“All of the other bits and pieces, we really don’t care about, but the defibrillator is not a cheap thing. The miscellaneous items can be replaced, while the defib is costly,” Ms Doyle said.

“We have it on site for the protection of everyone, and for someone to take that away is harsh, we have it on site for the sake of people playing sports, volunteers and spectators.”

Investigations into these matters are ongoing.
