A woman in her 20s will face court after an alleged violent robbery at a major Sunshine Coast shopping centre in which a female security guard went into cardiac arrest.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed a 24-year-old Currimundi woman had been charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of stealing as of about 8pm Sunday, May 7.

The woman was due to face Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday, May 8 and it was understood police would be alleging violence as part of the armed robbery charge.

Police had earlier been called to the Sunshine Plaza after reports of a serious assault of a 39-year-old female security guard outside Kmart about 11.20am Sunday.

The female guard was unconscious and understood to have been in cardiac arrest as a result of the alleged attack, as other shoppers rushed to her side, performing CPR until emergency services arrived.

The female guard was rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition and as of about 8pm Sunday she remained in a stable condition.

Senior Sunshine Coast police described it as “very lucky” that passers-by trained in first aid had been on-hand.

Sunshine Plaza Shopping Centre Manager Michael Manwaring said the centre was assisting police following the incident.

“We’re assisting police with their investigation, and as always, the safety of our customers, retailers and centre staff is our number one priority,” Mr Manwaring said.

The shopping centre currently has 24-hour security patrols as well as an on-site Police Beat.

It comes after a man in his 30s was allegedly savagely attacked in February by juveniles in the outdoor precinct of the major Maroochydore shopping centre.

More to come.
