Sunshine Coast cricket and golf sensation Alex Procopis has been selected for Queensland’s under-17 cricket team for the National Championships in Hobart.
After a standout year for the Northern Suburbs District Cricket Club, representing their second grade senior side and a member of the Lord’s Taverners under 17 team, Procopis has scored 869 runs, averaging 45.74, and has picked up 23 wickets in 19 matches.
The former Maroochydore and Glasshouse cricketer would also join Sunshine Coast Scorchers wicketkeeper Curtis McAllister in the 13-man squad.

The Chancellor State College student said he was eager for the coming weeks.
“It’s been a good year that I’ve had with Norths so now I’m really looking forward to going to Tasmania and see what I can do against the best players in the Country for our age group,” he said.
“To also play in the senior divisions with a lot of really good players that have had lots of experience throughout their cricket journey has been good.”
Northern Suburbs head coach David Brain said he was proud of Procopis’ efforts.
“He just dominated with runs and wickets in the Lord’s Taverners competition so he definitely deserves selection but he’s also a really coachable kid,” he said.
“He’s willing to take on feedback, he actively looks to improve his game and is also a really good teammate.
“He started the season in fourth grade but is now pushing to even play in the top grade which is a rare achievement, especially for someone of his age.”
The 16-year-old was also a part of Maroochy River’s A-grade pennant golf side, lifting them to victory over Coolum at Headland Park in the grand final.
Procopis, who took up golf in 2019 with a handicap of 15, has sliced it down to plus one and said he feels a mental correlation between the two sports.
He said he had no plans of picking his favourite sport just yet.
“I’m just trying to keep both pathways open at the moment,” he said.
“I’m quite full on with cricket in the summer and then when it rolls around to winter it’s all golf so right now I’m just enjoying them both.”
