Since 1948, the Sunshine Coast cricket scene has produced plenty of junior and senior stars.

The men’s division one competition has featured 11 teams with Nambour holding the record for the most premierships with 19.

In 1990, after the local first grade competition, which had previously hosted only two-day matches, changed the style of competition to seven two-day and seven one-day fixtures, the Sunshine Coast cricket association named honorary teams of the decade.

The format was that of a team in batting order, with the most successful players in their positions being recognised by results, with the only condition being a minimum of four seasons play to qualify.

Sunshine Coast Cricket's Division 1 Team of the 1980s included: Ken Anderson, Wes Hall, Stan Johnston, Ken Johnston, Gaven Ashworth, Phil Martyn, Mike Blundell, Mark Allsopp, Kent Officer, Nev Kuskopf, Pat Drew, Phil Drescher.

Nambour and Yandina players dominated the original 80s side, a sign of the hinterland’s supremacy, with the rising strength of coastal clubs asserting itself in the 90s team as Maroochydore especially gained recognition.

The turn of the century saw the rise of Caboolture, with a maiden premiership in 1999 leading to another five in that decade, giving increased recognition that will surely be reflected once more after the Snakes’ five consecutive successes after 2010.

After compiling the names and statistics of the top 100 batsmen, 100 bowlers and 36 fielders to have played in the division one competition since 2000, we now look back on the greatest ever players since 1951 that have received the prestigious best batsman and best bowler award of each season.
