The Sunshine Coast has witnessed plenty of sporting talent across its time and the sport of cricket is no different.

Since 1948 the competition has featured 11 teams in the first division with Nambour holding the record for the most premierships with 19.

Prior to those years Nambour still remained ‘the top team’ and used to travel by steam train to play against rivals Caboolture.

It’s rumoured that the iconic Caloundra lighthouse served as the Caloundra Cricket Club logo due to the first game being played in the grounds of the lighthouse.

Caloundra’s Roy Henzell Sr, a well-known name in the Sunshine Coast cricket community, donated approximately 4ha of land in 1945 so Caloundra had a place to play the sport.

That park is know known as Henzell Park on Lewis St, Caloundra.

Mr Henzell was also successful as secretary in requesting $50 for the funding of a picket fence at the oval.

Not long after well-known Australian players, who came to Caloundra for the hospitality and to play a game on the new field, included Ken “Slasher” Mackay and Ray Lindwall.

Fast forward 50 years and the Sunshine Coast has seen copious amounts of talented players take to the field each week.

We’ve compiled the statistics to finalise the top batsmen, bowlers and wicket keepers to create the best team since 2000.
