Athletic Brothers breakaway Kyran Tanuvasa produced a startling showing away from home to inspire his side to a 41-24 boilover win against Caloundra in round 7 of the SCRU A-grade competition.

The win lifted Brothers one point outside of the top four while University continued their undefeated streak with a 19-7 win over Maroochydore.

After falling behind early, the Barbarians defensive efforts were to be admired away from home with some huge stops and turnovers.

At the North end of the region Noosa cruised to a 84-17 win over Caboolture with a handful of multiple try scorers.

Brothers hunt for a top four spot will be tested in round eight when they host fourth placed Noosa at home.

Maroochydore will host Caboolture and Wynnum will welcome Caloundra while University will remain in top spot with the week off.

SCRU A-GRADE RD 7 TEAM OF THE WEEK

1. Jacob Pinkney (University)

The Queensland Country forward was extremely physical all day, proving why the Barbarians pack is still one of the best in the competition.

His work at the breakdown on both sides of the ball was huge for the entire 80 minutes.

2. Harry O’Connor (Noosa)

After three man of the match performances for Noosa’s reserve grade side, O’Connor was banging down the door for an A-grade start and was duly rewarded with another key performance in round seven.

The rising hooker and Dolphins junior played a strong 60 minutes and was massive at the lineout.

3. Julian Scott-Davies (Noosa)

Three tries for a prop forward surely earns you the week off training.

The Dolphins number three has been very impressive this season and was allowed to showcase his attacking attributes against Caboolture on Saturday.

4. Masirewa Ganita (Caboolture)

The Snakes backrow duo of Ganita and Nela Prescott was strong again despite the one-sided scoreline.

Ganita’s powerful ruck play and leg drive caused some problems for the Noosa defensive line.

5. Gabriele Venditti (Caloundra)

Was a real pain for Brothers all game with plenty of strong efforts at the breakdown and a number of key runs.

He was Caloundra’s go-to option off the back of the ruck as well as Todd Camm who injected plenty of life off the bench.

6. Patrick Edwards (Maroochydore)

Was the Swans best in a gritty and mostly close-quartered contest against the Barbarians.

His defensive shutdown plays and big motor has added plenty of spark to the Swans this season and is only getting better each week.

7. Josh Mostert (University)

Was able to retain his spot in the starting line-up and stood up to the task once again finishing as the Barbarian’s best.

Mostert was able to build continuous pressure all game and was an enormous threat at the breakdown.

8. Kyran Tanuvasa (Brothers)

The Brothers co-captain was the best of both sides on Saturday, finishing a damaging 75 minute stint with his head held high.

Tanuvasa was a man on a mission when running the ball and seemed to have a hand in everything.

He altered plenty of Caloundra set pieces, was strong when arriving at the breakdown, attracted multiple defenders when attempting to offload and left a mark on the defensive end.

9. Brady Kingan (Maroochydore)

The new Swans addition, who strolled through the gates from New Zealand looking for a game, has had a key impact through his first two matches.

Kingan’s presence at the ruck and communication between his forwards and backs has been evident as he continues to learn his teammates strengths.

10. Leone Cama (Brothers)

The ball pinged from end to end and sideline to sideline in the Caloundra versus Brothers contest but Cama kept his side settled as much as possible with some calm kicks and platform setting attacking plays.

The experienced leader controlled the speed of the game as well as possible and combined well with his outside men.

11. Junior Sisa (University)

Snagged a five-pointer on the siren of halftime but it was Sisa’s defensive efforts that helped him shine against Maroochydore.

The fast-footed winger was everywhere and produced a handful of defensive reads that quickly nullified any Swans attack

12. Nakoa Marcroft (Brothers)

Was able to break the line every time he carried the ball and was strong in defence all game.

His ability to tuck the ball and run, offload or take the ball to the line and pass late had his former side on the back foot early.

13. Colby Mason (University)

Broke the game open thanks to a huge bump and run play right on halftime that gave his side the lead and plenty of confidence at the break.

The Barbarians attacking play still wasn’t as crisp as they’d like but Mason’s defensive effort put a halt to numerous Swans opportunities.

14. Matthew Schoutrop (Noosa)

The Dolphins winger soaked up all of the open space available against Caboolture with a number of breakaway runs and support play efforts.

Schoutrop finished with three tries of his own in Noosa’s 67-point victory.

15. Jack Buckley (Brothers)

Slotted in on the wing for Brothers but the impact finisher would’ve been a tough omission from the side this week.

Buckley’s ability to sniff out the line or a gap to support his teammates is up there with the best in the competition and it’ll be a driving factor for his side’s points scoring chances this season.

Honourable Mentions: Olly Willis (University), Logan Pickering (Brothers), Michael Fields (Brothers), Joe Wikaira (Maroochydore), Will Tanzer (Caloundra), Todd Camm (Caloundra), Cameron Ray (Caloundra), Kaan Askew (Caloundra), Nela Prescott (Caboolture), Hayden Wittleton (Caboolture), Sam Hoffman (Caboolture) and Nathan Thompson (University).
