Leading Sunshine Coast trainer Stuart Kendrick is hoping his young crop of horses can continue his stable’s red hot form after coming away with six winners from three race meets last weekend.

Highland Son, Cosmic Gossip, Bellicosity, Way Beyond and La Amigo helped Kendrick add to his winning tally at the Sunshine Coast on October 8 and 10 while Nor Force was able to record a maiden win on the Gold Coast on October 9.

Kendrick said he would be keen to see how his three-year-old maiden runner Down and Around ran after trialling at the track on September 21.

“We’ve had Nor Force and Sip it Slow win off the back of their good trials here so it will be good to see how Down and Around runs on Sunday,” he said.

“It’s obviously dependent on a few things like the barrier and the other outside factors but I thought he went really well last time out so I’m looking forward to seeing how he performs.”

Kendrick, who recorded his fifth year in a row at the top of the Sunshine Coast trainers premiership table, has started this season with 14 wins and 28 places from 74 starts.

He said his stable’s younger horses have shone at this stage of the season.

“We had a lot of older horses finish up on the Sunshine Coast last season and had a number of young horses join our stable,” he said.

“We have got a lot of nice young ones coming through and some that have even performed well already.

“The hope is with these nice horses we can continue on and a few can even head into town.”

Kendrick said having leading Sunshine Coast jockey James Orman in such good form was a positive.

“Jimmy is always good to get on although he’s pretty hard to get at the moment given his top form,” Kendrick said.

“He’s been able to ride well for us when we’ve given him the chance so we always hope to get him on where we can, which is always a bonus.

“I think it will be a good battle this year between him and the other leading jockeys to see who finishes on top.”
