Veteran horse trainer Trevor Miller has revealed which current horse to keep an eye on after reflecting on his achievements since moving to the Sunshine Coast.

More Everest slots filled three weeks out from race

At nearly 80 years old, prominent Sunshine Coast racing trainer Trevor Miller has his sights set on another respectable season and says he’s excited to see what his top-string horses can do.

Since making the move to the Corbould Park racetrack 35 years ago, just 18 months after the track opened, Miller had been one of the most successful trainers in Queensland.

He remains the only trainer to win all five major Sunshine Coast races including the Caloundra Cup, the Sunshine Coast Guineas and the Glasshouse Handicap twice.

Miller said he was proud of the work his horses do.

“I’ve had a bit of success and I’m still going which is always good,” he said.

“We currently only have 14 horses which is a change to the large amount we used to have but it’s a good amount for me now.”

The stable’s leading hope ‘Zingalong’ is set to kick off his campaign in a few weeks time after two dominant trial performances.

“Zingalong is working nicely and going good at the moment so I’m very pleased with him,” Miller said.

“He’ll kick off his next prep in two weeks’ time and he’ll tell us what to do given how he runs.

“He is a very smart horse who has come along lovely.”

Miller, who had won the Sunshine Coast trainer’s premiership more than a dozen times, said he had been around horses since he was young.

“I’ve been connected to horses since I was a young kid,” he said.

“I had two older brothers who were involved too and since I was about five years of age I have been riding or working with horses.”

The now 78 year-old said he initially made the move to the Sunshine Coast after visiting for holidays.

“I had some intent to make the move for a couple of years but it took me some time to get here,” he said.

“I used to come here for holidays and it’s a good place to live and it’s a great place to work.”
