The Coast 2020/2021 horse racing season has come to an end with prominent trainer Stuart Kendrick showing the competition exactly why his stable produced so many top quality two year old horses.
Kendrick finished with a total of 47 wins and 79 placings from 306 starts beating out Queensland powerhouse Tony Gollan and finishing alongside jockey Ben Thompson.
This is the fifth year in a row Kendrick has finished top of the Sunshine Coast trainers premiership table.
He said it had been another solid season with the Sunshine Coast Turf Club.
“It’s great for me to win another premiership especially as the Coast is becoming harder and harder to win at,” he said.
“There has been plenty of ups and downs this season due to Covid-19 but Racing Queensland have done a great job at helping racing continue on.”
Kendrick recorded 17 individual two year old winners this season.
“For so many horses in that age bracket to win and perform well has been great,” he said.
Kendrick said he was particularly impressed with his horse ‘I’ve Bean There’ who competed in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes in Randwick in April.
“One major highlight was with ‘I’ve Bean There’ who raced well up in Queensland before heading down to Sydney and running well,” he said.
Jockey Ben Thompson finished on top of the premiership table with 34 wins and 66 placings from 254 starts at the track.
Sunshine Coast Turf Club chief executive John Miller said it had been another memorable season.
“With the disruptions of Covid-19 I think everyone has done the best they possibly could and that's a massive credit to Racing Queensland who have been able to navigate a path through it all,” he said.
“With them giving us the green light and allowing racing to continue it has provided opportunities for the local participants on and off the track.”
“From my perspective and from the Coast fanbase it has been a successful year.”
