Marymount Primary were the standout overachievers in this years AFLQ Schools Cup competition.

Progressing all the way to the primary boys grand final with two big wins over Stella Maris and one over Villanova the boys from Gold Coast made their intentions clear to the rest of the competition.

In both of their pool games the team found themselves behind at the halftime break but were able to kick back in the second term to eventually win.

Big day one performances from Billy Hamilton, Jasper Smith and Levi Carrol put Marymount in a strong position heading into their semi final matchup.

In their semi final against Stella Maris they got out to an early 18-6 lead and never looked like giving it up as they went on to win 26-18.

They then met Villanova in the grand final after already beating them 27-19 earlier in the carnival.

Marymount’s Harlin Blackman was a top performer in the third term kicking two goals and giving his team their first lead of the match.

In what was one of the top grand finals of the competition the teams were only separated by one point heading into the fourth quarter.

Marymount struggled to get out of their own half in the fourth quarter as Villanova kicked away to win 6.13.49-4.3.27.

Nevertheless it was a great team display from a gutsy Marymount outfit taking away plenty of positives from this year's competition.

Mooloolaba go big once again

Mooloolaba State School went into this years finals series full of confidence after taking out last years primary female division.

With 10 players returning from that winning team there was no doubt they would be challenging for the title once again.

They began the tournament with a convincing 30-1 and 20-12 wins over Marymount and Toowoomba East before fatigue set in and they recorded a shaky 3-0 victory over Holland Park.

They met with Hermit Park SS in the final match of the day which saw them get out to at solid 16-0 lead at halftime.

Mooloolaba’s captain Millie Murray and midfielder Millie Pearson helped lift their team to a 42-0 victory.

The girls were eager to get begin the grand final and after kicking the opening two goals in the first quarter the odds were stacked against a weary Holland Park outfit.

Mooloolaba eventually went on to win the match 6.3.39-0.2.2 to be crowned back to back champions.

Millie Murray: a name to remember

Mooloolaba’s Millie Murray stamped her foot on the Primary Female division for the second year running after she received back-to-back best on ground medals while helping her team to back-to-back titles.

Murray, who was captain and midfielder in Mooloolaba’s influential performances could not be stopped in her teams undefeated run to the grand final.

Her skill and timing with the footy helped her shine throughout the carnival and her biggest performance came in her team's big victory against Hermit Park State School.

Murray’s leadership and dominance on the field was a major talking point for her teams success and she proved why she is a player to keep an eye on for years to come.

Palm Beach Currumbin a class above the rest

After winning four from four grand finals in the secondary competition last year heavyweights Palm Beach Currumbin returned to prove their worth once again.

They qualified in all four secondary grand finals again this year and were able to receive back-to-back titles in the junior male, junior female and senior female divisions.

Junior female captain Mia Salisbury was influential the entire tournament and was a big reason for her teams grand final success.

Similar efforts from Keeley Parker and Aleria Asher in the senior female team and a best on ground performance from Jack Javonovich in the junior male final was enough to see their teams lift the trophy.

Although the boys in red were unable to lift the trophy in the senior male grand final, the school as a whole proved why they remain the states biggest threat.
