The boss of a truck driver involved in a head-on crash at Beerwah that killed a man says his employee was lucky to escape without injury.

Maleny Dairies’ owner Ross Hopper said the truck driver at the centre of the fatal crash, was “going well” and keen to return to work after being given the week off.

It comes Monday afternoon’s fatal crash near the intersection of Roys Rd and Dianella Rd, Beerwah, which killed motorist and father James Ciseau.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said earlier this week that the incident was under investigation.

Mr Hopper said the driver had finished his second run for the day when the crash unfolded about 4pm.

He said the driver had been a bit “rattled” by the incident and would return to duties next week.

“He’s going well and wanting to come back to work,” Mr Hopper said.

“We just told him to take the rest of the week off for a breather.”

Mr Hopper said the crash had destroyed the truck and the impact jackknifed it into a gully.

He said there was nothing the driver could have done to avoid the impact which left debris scattered across Roys Rd.

“He was just driving along and the car just came at him,” Mr Hopper said.

“The truck was destroyed and he lost his steering instantly.

“He was lucky to hold on.”

Mr Hopper said he was praying for Mr Ciseau’s family.

The sisters of Mr Ciseau, Lauren and Jacinta, paid tribute to their big brother who they said had a “heart of gold”.

“James was loved by anyone he met, he’d walk into a room and would make it brighter, like a ray of sunshine,” the pair said.
