Labor’s Rob Skelton, LNP’s Marty Hunt make promises over TAFE, roads

With less than two weeks to go before election day, Labor has drawn line in the sand over the Nambour TAFE while the LNP goes on the attack about roads in Cooroy and Palmwoods.

Labor Member for Nicklin Rob Skelton has told the LNP to keep its hands off Nambour TAFE, while the LNP and candidate for Nicklin Marty Hunt has slammed Labor for years of inaction over some Sunshine Coast roads.

Labor has promised millions to the education sector in Queensland while ministers visited a facility on the Sunshine Coast while attacking the LNP’s plan for TAFEs across Queensland.

Meanwhile, in Cooroy and Palmwoods, the LNP has focused on upgrades to roads while slamming Labor for years of inaction.

Just less than two weeks out from the election and Labor Member for Nicklin Rob Skelton was with Training Minister Lance McCallum to spruik a $200m commitment to TAFE Queensland while telling the LNP to “keep their hands off” the Nambour facility.

“I need the LNP to come clean on how they’re funding all their promises,” Mr Skelton said.

He said it was an LNP government that made the controversial decision to close the Tewantin TAFE.

As Labor was making its education commitment in Nambour, the LNP candidate for Nicklin Marty Hunt said his party would start working on a safety upgrade at the Jubilee Dr, Chevallum Rd and Palmwoods Rd intersections and rail overpass in Palmwoods if elected.

He promised $700,000 to a business case and design.

“The LNP will restore respect for your money, delivering projects on time and on budget,” Mr Hunt said.

“Labor has ignored the concerns of this community, with residents raising this issue repeatedly with the state government.”

Mr Hunt also promised safety upgrades to the intersections linking Elm St with Myall and Diamond streets in Cooroy, with $500,000 to fund a business case and design works for the traffic hotspot.

“This business case and design works will identify the best solution to ensure safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians navigating these dangerous intersections and finally provide the residents of Cooroy with a resolution to this continuing community issue,” Mr Hunt said.
