A Peregian Beach woman escaped a conviction after she followed a man to a shopping centre car park and attacked him believing he fled a crash.

Isabel Caitlin Turner pleaded guilty to public nuisance and drug-driving with a provisional licence in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on August 26.

Police prosecutor Michael Quirk said the hairdresser was seen weaving in and out of traffic along Nicklin Way about 1.15pm on July 7 when she stopped abruptly in front of another car and demanded the driver to get out.

The police prosecutor said the car drove off and the woman chased him to a nearby shopping centre car park at Warana, where she began to kick and punch the man’s vehicle, while she yelled for him to get out.

Mr Quirk said when the male driver also got out, Turner attacked him by kicking, scratching and hitting him.

Defence lawyer Patrick Meehan said he was instructed Turner believed there was a minor collision with the vehicle behind her, which was why she approached the victim.

Mr Meehan said she then followed him to the car park because he refused to give her his details and left.

Turner was placed on a six-month probation order, fined $100 and disqualified from driving for three months.

No conviction was recorded.

Samantha Leah Lynch had her Mount Coolum home raided by police who were in search of another person on July 26.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court was told on August 20 the 18-year-old declared to police only a designer bag belonged to her.

Police prosecutor James Allen said 52g of marijuana in bags, two tablets and an iPhone were found inside, which led to police uncovering a drug deal on the encrypted application Telegram.

Mr Allen said there were talks of meeting on a street corner, continuing to read the texts between the two, which stated “I hope you enjoyed … good smoke ... usually have new strains but need to get rid of some Silver Haze before reload”.

Duty lawyer Breanna Bowtell said Lynch had been medicating for some mental health diagnoses and was struggling financially at the time. She has since left the Mount Coolum home where the drug raid occurred.

The court heard Franklin continued to interfere with other patrons and refused to leave, ultimately being physically escorted out.

The police prosecutor said the Marcoola man then started a fight with the guards by resisting their efforts, and even bit one of them on their hands.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard Mooloolaba influencer Lachie Porter swindled a Northern Rivers woman out of almost $200 through a Facebook Marketplace deal over an Apple iPhone 12.

Police prosecutor Jeanette Grigoris said the 20-year-old, who has more than 7000 followers on Instagram and 23,000 on TikTok, spoke to the prospective buyer and agreed to sell the phone for $370 and post it to her.

The woman paid $185 upfront for the iPhone and agreed to transfer the rest once she received it but Porter then removed the online advertisement and failed to post the phone.

Officers spoke to Porter on July 3 this year, who said he did not think he received the money from the victim and sold the iPhone to someone else.

When he was shown the bank transfer which depicted the woman’s transfer to Porter, he had no answer other than to say it was “wrong” for what he did.

Duty lawyer Cherisse Breese said she was instructed when Porter removed the ad following the phone’s sale it deleted the messages, however the apprentice admitted he should’ve tried harder to contact the victim.

Porter pleaded guilty to fraud by dishonestly gaining a benefit and was fined $350. He must also pay $185 compensation to the victim.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist fined Ashworth a total of $1050, disqualified him from driving for six months and ordered the teenager complete 40 hours of community service.

Disturbing footage of a park bashing was played to Maroochydore District Court on July 15 after Orrick Walter Bain, 19, pleaded guilty to armed robbery in company.

The apprentice and two others lured the victim to a Baringa football field on July 20, 2023 after the court heard the complainant had reportedly pulled a knife on one of Bain’s co-accused’s mates in the weeks beforehand.

Crown prosecutor Erica Zammit then played a video of the incident, where Bain can be seen using a skateboard to savagely beat the victim three times after the co-accused started the bashing.

They left the scene with the man’s wallet, shoes, shoulder bag, knife, jumper, sunglasses and chain.

Ms Zammit said the victim suffered a 6cm cut to his scalp which exposed the bone and required staples. The court heard the victim also suffered bruising to his cheek, forearms and wrist.

Defence barrister Mark Dixon said the other co-accused was the “architect” of the violent robbery with Bain being “led” by a more experienced offender.

Mr Dixon said the Noosaville teen was homeless and started living with his co-accused, falling into criminal behaviour but has since started an apprenticeship.

Bain was placed on a three-year probation order and must perform 180 hours’ community service. He was also ordered to pay $2000 in compensation to the victim.

Murphy Joseph Gunn incriminated himself after multiple videos were found on his phone and social media of him performing dangerous burnouts in front of spectators and with passengers in his car.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard his offending took place across multiple suburbs including Cooroy, Woombye, Pacific Paradise, Pomona and Corbould Park between September and October last year.

The 18-year-old was charged with seven counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and pleaded guilty to them in court on July 16.

Police prosecutor Tara Miles said video showed how Gunn’s driving put nearby pedestrians and passengers in harm’s way.

Gunn’s dangerous hobby was discovered when his electronic devices were seized and analysed after a raid on his home by police.

Defence lawyer Rose Killip said Gunn was part of a large group of offenders charged.

Ms Killip plainly admitted it was “stupid offending” by a group of boys, and said one of the biggest victims was his mum.

The court heard Gunn used his parent’s $12,000 car for all of his burnouts which led to it being impounded by police. Ms Killip said it was unlikely it would be returned.

Gunn was fined $2000 and disqualified from driving for one year. No conviction was recorded.

Maroochydore District Court heard a love interest acted as the catalyst for the violent bashing at the hands of Tammin Lange, 19, Eloise Starr Peacock, 20 and a female juvenile.

The pair pleaded guilty to assault in company, wilful damage and stealing in court on July 15.

Crown prosecutor Nicola Hamilton said Lange became upset when she discovered the victim was romantically involved with a boy she liked.

Ms Hamilton said the trio escorted her to a nearby park last year and the juvenile punched the victim in the face multiple times and pulled her to the ground by her hair.

She got up, however, and the court heard Peacock joined the assault by pulling the girl back to the ground. The juvenile and Peacock then kicked her to the ribs.

Lange did not join the assault but had filmed several seconds of the incident and she eventually told the pair to stop.

Ms Hamilton said the victim suffered swelling and cuts to her nose, bruising to her eyes, swelling and grazing to her lip and cheek and bruising to other parts of her body.

Defence barrister Mark Dixon said Lange has since left the Sunshine Coast to get away from a friend group leading her down a “bad path”.

Defence barrister Lily Brisick, acting for Peacock, said her client was not friends with the victim and was instructed the 20-year-old felt “stupid” for coming along that day.

They were each sentenced to an 18-month probation order and 70 hours’ community service with no convictions recorded.

Peacock must also pay $200 compensation for the AirPods.

Noticeable sighs of relief were heard in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on March 19 by supporters of Joseph James Mackenzie after he was given a suspended sentence for his gross act on a police officer on September 9, 2023.

Police prosecutor Brendan Newman told the court the officer felt “disgusted and violated” when the teenager spat at him, which went “everywhere” including his eyes and mouth, with most of it landing on his cheek.

The court was told the officer underwent a disease test which meant his home life had to change until his results came back.

Sergeant Newman said the Clontarf teenager was “misbehaving” in the safe night precinct in Maroochydore and accepted it was an “isolated” incident.

Defence lawyer Rose Killip said the offending was “out of character” for the teenager who had feelings of “guilt and shame”.

The court heard Mackenzie looked into assistance for alcohol rehabilitation and counselling. He also wrote a letter of apology to the officer.

The Clontarf man was sentenced to eight months’ jail, suspended for 24 months. He must also pay $1000 compensation to the officer.

Mackenzie pleaded guilty to charges of serious assaulting police and public nuisance.

Charlie Phillip Want, 25, gave himself up to police three days after a disturbing incident where he grabbed the arm of a young girl and tried to take her to a park in Baringa on March 18, 2023.

The former construction worker pleaded guilty to attempted child stealing and failing to comply with reporting obligations in the Maroochydore District Court on March 14.

Crown prosecutor Alex Stark said the girl and her friend were walking along the street when they were approached by Want who asked if she wanted to go to the park.

The facts state the victim was reluctant before he grabbed her arm and pulled her down the street while the young girl told him to stop.

Want was heard saying “I wish I could get a kid”, the court was told.

Luckily a concerned neighbour saw what was happening and yelled out to Want, who fled the scene.

Defence barrister James Feely said Want spent a lengthy time in custody and said jail wasn’t a “place he likes to be”.

Mr Feely said the 25-year-old gained insight into his conduct and had received mental health treatment in custody.

Want was jailed for three years with a parole release date of June 21.
