An aspiring fisherman has been fined after a bender on Ocean St led to him threatening to fight multiple people and punching cars at the taxi rank.
Bailey J Kenny admitted in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday he couldn’t remember the night at all after drinking for eight straight hours on June 1.
The Buderim man, who pleaded guilty to public nuisance, was seen along the infamous party strip near the Post Office Bar in Maroochydore about 2.30am by officers.
Police prosecutor Tara Miles said the 22-year-old appeared dishevelled, with officers suggesting he should go home because he was too drunk and wouldn’t be let into any clubs.
Senior Constable Miles said a short time later they were called to a disturbance outside Sol Bar along Ocean St where they saw Kenny in a loud verbal argument with other punters.
The court heard Kenny was trying to provoke another man to fight him while pushing and grabbing him. Police took the 22-year-old to the Uber rank near the Big Top Shopping Centre after he was arrested and told him to leave the area.
Shortly after this encounter police were called back to the rank about 3.20am where the Buderim man was seen shouting obscene language, punching vehicles as they drove past and threatening to fight more people.
The court was told Kenny was arrested and taken to the watch-house.
He represented himself in court this week where he said he didn’t remember the night at all, and had been out since 6.30pm the night before he was arrested.
Kenny told acting magistrate Anna Smith he used to work as a concreter and hoped to start his own fishing trawler. He said he hadn’t drunk in the six months leading to his June 1 bender.
Ms Smith told the 20-year-old the incident could’ve been “far worse”.
“Maybe keep a bit of control next time,” the acting magistrate told Kenny.
The Buderim man was fined $500 with no conviction recorded.
