A teenage Little Mountain dad launched an unprovoked attack on his 61-year-old neighbour after he tried to get into a nearby birthday party.

Francis Alexander Ross received a suspended sentence for the assault on the evening of November 15, 2021 in Little Mountain.

Caloundra Magistrates Court heard the young father was extremely drunk on the night of the assault and had been walking around a nearby park with a relative.

Police prosecutor Amanda Brewer said Ross had overhead a nearby birthday party and went to the front door of the home to see if he could join the festivities.

Sergeant Brewer said Ross was shepherded away from the door by his companion before he knocked on a door again.

Ross asked the 61-year-old victim who answered the door to come outside.

Ross was told to get off the property as the victim had no idea who he was and told the 19-year-old he would call the police.

After a short exchange the 19-year-old punched the older man in the eye prompting a scuffle as other household members grabbed Ross and restrained him until police arrived.

Representing himself in court Ross said he had been going through a dark period in his life and had recently found himself a job and a new home.

The 19-year-old said he had also been seeking help for his mental health.

Ross pleaded guilty to assaulting a person over 60 and was sentenced to three months’ jail, suspended for 12 months.

Convictions were recorded.
