Four men charged after alleged Uber driver attack on Ocean Street

A group of four men have been charged after they allegedly attacked and robbed two Sunshine Coast Uber drivers at a popular nightclub strip.

A group of four men allegedly threw racist comments at an Uber driver before they attacked him and another man at a popular Sunshine Coast nightclub strip.

A Queensland Police spokesman said four men aged from 18 to 20 have been charged after the brawl on Ocean Street at approximately 1:40am on Saturday.

The spokesman said police will allege the group of men walked up to the Uber driver and made racist comments before the fight broke out.

The 39-year-old alleged victim allegedly had his phone, wallet and keys stolen by one of the men.

Police will allege a second Uber driver also got assaulted during the fight.

The police spokesman said the four men allegedly ran away before being caught by police 30 minutes later.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said they attended the scene around 1:42am and took one man to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The spokeswoman said paramedics had no details of the injuries caused to the two alleged victims.

Two men aged 20 and 18 were charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm while in company.

Another 19-year-old man was charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and a 20-year-old was charged with robbery in company.

Maroochydore police the allegations as “distasteful”.

All four men have been given bail and will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on December 6.
