A father who caused immense fear when he allegedly held a child over a balcony has had his bail refused after he was accused of defying a domestic violence order 15 times.

The 23-year-old father had his bail application refused in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday after he was charged with 15 counts of contravening a domestic violence order.

The court heard the man allegedly threatened violence on many of the 15 occasions and held a child over a balcony.

“That must have caused immense fear and trepidation to the ... (mother) as well,” police prosecutor Michael Ruddiman said.

Sergeant Ruddiman said the man had breached four of the five conditions on the order and was an “unacceptable risk”.

“He has already shown how he treats orders of the court,” he said.

“How can we give him bail when he’s already got a court order saying don't do A, B, C and D and he goes out and does A, B, C and D?”

Duty lawyer Rachel Holland said her client’s alleged offending stemmed from him not being able to see his son.

“He has been aware that his son has been very unwell and the aggrieved has not been keeping my client up to date with the full prognosis and diagnosis,” she said.

“This has been very worrying for my client and out of frustration he contacted the aggrieved.”

Magistrate Christopher Callaghan noted one of the occasions also involved violence to a mobile phone.

He remanded the man in custody and adjourned his matter to the domestic violence breach court on November 12.

The man will appear via video link.
