A 22-year-old father who had clenched fists when he abused police, forced a Nambour child care centre into lockdown when he sneaked into a children's classroom.

A young father who forced a Nambour childcare centre into lockdown during a violent spree has been put on notice that jail is his next destination.

The 22-year-old man was sentenced to seven months in prison after he pleaded guilty in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court to nine charges including contravening a domestic violence order and public nuisance.

Police prosecutor Philip Stephens said an early learning centre had to go into lockdown when the man snuck into the Nambour centre at 3pm on June 19.

Sergeant Stephens said police were called to the childcare centre where the man had been trying to gain entry via the main entry door that had a pincode.

While staff were confirming the man’s identity with his child’s mother he snuck into the classroom.

“(He) … managed to gain entry by following another parent into the childcare centre and made his way into his daughter’s classroom,” Sergeant Stephens said.

“This forced the childcare centre into lockdown.”

After being asked several times to leave the man started walking out and punched a hallway wall.

Police attended the scene, but could not find the man and an arrest warrant was applied for.

Duty lawyer Leisel Rogan said the man, who was trying to contact the mother to organise time with his daughter, had now cut ties with the woman and understood he would need to engage legal assistance to see his daughter.

Ms Rogan said she understood a short period of imprisonment may be in range, but urged the court not to impose any actual custody.

She said the man was in the best position he had been with a place to live, employment and weekly counselling and a prison sentence could do “more harm than good”.

“It’s my submission in the event that a period of actual custody was imposed today, the rehabilitation my client has been able to undergo in the past months would be undone,” she said.

“He instructs ... during those (counselling) sessions he has been able to address behavioural issues and learning strategies to avoid further criminal behaviour and manage his emotions.”

She said a suspended sentence or immediate release on parole, coupled with probation would significantly deter the man.

She noted the man was intoxicated during the offences at the child care centre and there was no physical violence involved in the breaches.

Magistrate Rod Madsen said the man’s criminal history showed he had a “bad attitude” towards court orders.

“I think you have been given more than enough opportunity to show what you can do,” he said.

Mr Madsen said having regard to Ms Rogan’s submissions and the man’s early plea he would release him on immediate parole.

“I don’t think you’re going to make it, but you need to understand if you don’t make it your parole will be suspended or cancelled … and you can expect to serve the full term,” he said.

He was also placed on 19 months’ probation.

Queensland Corrections did not breach the man for his offending while on probation.
