Alleged Caloundra hooning video: Little Mountain man charged with dangerous operation of vehicle, wilful damage after film surfaces

A Sunshine Coast man has been stung under tough new hooning laws after he was caught on film allegedly performing burnouts and driving dangerously. WATCH THE VIDEO.

A 39-year-old Little Mountain man has been charged and had his car seized after he was caught allegedly performing multiple burnouts in an industrial area at Caloundra.

Police allege the man was driving a Nissan Coupe dangerously at high speed along Claude Boyd Parade on October 16.

He was also filmed performing burnouts which allegedly caused damage to the road.

Investigations by officers from the Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol group resulted in a search warrant being executed at a nearby Caloundra address, where the Nissan was located and seized.

The man was home during the search and was charged with one count of dangerous operation of vehicle type 1 offence and wilful damage.

He will be hauled before Maroochydore Magistrates Court on November 1.

This is the first time someone has been charged on the Sunshine Coast under the new anti-hooning legislation passed in April this year.

The laws were strengthened to hold the registered owner of a vehicle responsible for any hooning activity carried out in their vehicle, and makes it easier for police to take enforcement action against large groups of hoons.

This means if the owner of a vehicle claims they weren’t driving at the time of the offence, it will be up to them to prove it.
