A fundraiser to support the heartbroken fiancee of a 32-year-old North Lakes business owner, who died in a horror truck cash in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, has been launched.

Alexsander Cosic was the passenger in a truck which crashed and rolled into a creek at Woombye on Friday, August 18. He was found dead at the scene.

The driver, a 27-year-old Deception Bay man, was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with a back injury. A hospital spokesperson has since confirmed he was released on August 19.

The crash happened less than a week after Mr Cosic and his fiancee, Kiah Van Bruggen, had set a date for their wedding.

A GoFundMe has been launched to support Ms Van Bruggen and her two children following the tragic loss of the husband-to-be and step-dad.

Kayt McKinlay on August 21, wrote on the Gofundme page that everything was “shattered to pieces” for Ms Van Bruggen after Mr Cosic’s death.

“Now instead of planning a wedding Kiah is having to plan a funeral,” she wrote.

The truck involved in the crash was from Mr Cosic’s business A & D Earthmoving, she said, which was written off along with the equipment it was carrying.

A Workplace Health and Safety Queensland spokesperson said that they had been notified and are investigating the incident but could not comment at this time.

“Not only has Kiah lost her fiance but she has also lost her main source of income,” Ms McKinlay wrote.

She said Mr Cosic was an “amazing and loving stepfather” to Ms Van Bruggen’s two children, and his death lost them their “protector and provider”.

The fundraiser was to help support Ms Van Bruggen pay for Mr Cosic’s funeral with living costs while they grieve, she wrote.

Within about 24 hours it had raised $1010 towards its $10,000 target.

Ms Van Bruggen described her late partner as a compassionate man.

“He was a beautiful man that would give anyone the shirt off his back,” Ms Van Bruggen said.

“He was always trying to help everybody wherever he could.”

After growing up in Western Sydney, Mr Cosic relocated to Brisbane in July 2020 where he met his partner.

“We were together for two and a half years and we got engaged six weeks ago,” she said.

“We had just set a wedding date last weekend.”

Ms Van Bruggen said Mr Cosic’s proposal is one of her favourite memories.

“We had taken the kids to Redcliffe to do some fishing and he was down there with my brother but had given me a call saying the car had stopped working and I needed to come down to pick up the kids,” she said.

“Once I was down there he said he wanted to show me something so we went for a little walk on the beach and that’s when he dropped down on one knee and asked if I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.

“It was very special.”

Ms Van Bruggen described her “absolute shock” in an Instagram post on Friday.

“My beautiful fiance, my soulmate, my best friend, my rock,” it read.

“I’m so lost without you, I’m in complete shock.

“I am still waiting for you to come home to me, however I know this isn’t possible.

“You truly were the best thing to ever come into my life.

“I am so proud of the amazing man you had become.”

The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing to investigate the crash which occurred at West Woombye.

Witnesses or anyone with information or relevant vision is urged to contact police.
