Nazma Khan: Flaxton woman mourned after dying in Woombye car crash

A grieving husband has told of his heartache after his wife tragically lost her life in a car crash in the Sunshine Coast hinterland just weeks after they married.

The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A Flaxton woman and former disc jockey has been remembered for her smile that would “light up the room” after her tragic death in a car crash in Woombye.

Nazma Khan had been driving along Foley Rd about 1.45pm on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 when her Suzuki Swift left the road and crashed into a tree near Wilkes Rd.

She sadly died at the scene.

The hinterland communities surrounding Flaxton have been mourning the death of the 29-year-old who was recently married and had been saving up for a first home.

Her partner Dev Khan said he could not explain the unfathomable loss of his darling wife so suddenly.

Mr Khan first met his wife in Brisbane in 2019 where she was working in radio, after she moved from India where she was born.

“I never saw a lady like her before … she took all of my heart,” Mr Khan said.

“She was always happy go lucky and would always buy gifts for me, like mini things … toys, she was a great lady.”

The couple moved to the Sunshine Coast and married on June 12 2022, only three weeks before her fatal crash.

Mrs Khan worked at the Country Chef Bakery Co. in Kunda Park as a productions operator, and accumulated an abundance of friends in her time there.

During their time on the Coast Mr Khan said he and his beloved wife would always go to the beach together and would try to spend every moment together.

“She would never leave me alone and I never did either, she would always go ‘I will go with you always’,” he said.

“I would make dinner for her every Monday to Friday when she worked … we would watch a movie together everyday, and just spend time with each other all the time.”

Mr Khan said there were so many memories that he would cherish since the death of his soulmate.

“She was a lovely lady and she will never be forgotten by me, she will be remembered all of the time,” he said.

“She’ll always be in my heart, and I’ll meet her heart there in heaven one day.”

Close friend Cindy New said the 29-year-old was “the most beautiful person” and was “always smiling and giving hugs everyday”.

“It’s not going to be the same without her,” Ms New said.

“She lit up the room.”

Ms New said she would remember her friend as a woman who always wore traditional dresses and bright colours but they were no match for her smile.

“She was taken way too soon,” she said.

Forensic Crash Unit investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision of the crash or the moments leading up to it to contact police.
