A Sunshine Coast mum has recalled the devastating phone call from her husband telling her their five-month-old son had died in his crib.

Benjamin Thomas Andersson was only five-months-old when he was cruelly taken from this world, leaving his parents Allanah and Tauu Andersson to piece together their shattered family.

Mrs Andersson said she would never forget the call she received from her partner on June 24, 2022 which would change her life forever.

She said Mr Andersson was with his mum at their new home in Mango Hill while Mrs Andersson stayed at the Coast for a work event.

Mrs Andersson received a call about 10.30pm from Mr Andersson which was “every parent’s nightmare”.

“My husband just said that ‘Benji, he’s dead’,” Mrs Andersson said.

“There was just no words.”

The young mum drove to her Mango Hill home with her parents to find police cars had lined the street.

It was there she was told her mother-in-law had discovered Benji not breathing, with his dad desperately performing CPR on his son.

Sadly, Benji had passed away.

Mrs Andersson said police were still determining the cause of death but believed her son died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Benji’s death felt surreal for the young family as they came to terms with never seeing their healthy and strong boy ever again.

“He was literally the happiest baby I have ever seen … he always had the biggest smile on his face and was always smiling,” Mrs Andersson said.

“Every time I would come home and someone was holding him he would be pretty much kicking himself out of their arms to be with me.”

Since Benji’s death the grieving parents have been staying with family and looking after their children, two-year-old Lachlan and five-month-old Freya – Benji’s twin.

She said the couple were grateful for the support shown to them having both grown up on the Sunshine Coast.

A fundraiser has been created to raise money for Benji’s funeral which will be held about 11am at Gregson and Weight in Caloundra on July 11, 2022.
