The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A 29-year-old Flaxton woman has been confirmed by police as the victim of a horror crash in the Sunshine Coast hinterland after her car smashed into a tree.

Police and paramedics rushed to Mckenzie Rd and Foley Rd in Woombye about 1.40pm Tuesday, July 5, to reports of a serious single-vehicle crash.

Initial investigations suggest the woman’s car – a 2008 Suzuki Swift – left the road travelling south and crashed into a tree before careening down an embankment.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics assessed a patient for critical injuries.

Police confirmed the woman sadly died at the scene and her family had been notified of her tragic passing.

Paul Foley was one of the first on scene of the Woombye crash on Tuesday.

Woombye local Paul Foley was one of the first on scene after he and one of his workers heard the crash along the 70km/h road.

“I knew straight away that it was a car crash,” Mr Foley said.

“We’ve run out to find it and couldn’t initially see it but then we found that the car had come over the embankment.

“There was smoke or steam pouring out of it … we then jumped onto the ambulance to get out there.”

Nambour Police Senior Constable Josh Brady said despite the best efforts of paramedics the woman died at the scene.

He said her family had been notified and police were investigating but there were “no suspicious circumstances”.

“It’s just believed to be an absolute tragic incident as a culmination of the weather and the road conditions at the time,” Constable Brady said.
