A popular Sunshine Coast adventure park is being investigated by workplace authorities after a young boy escaped serious injuries when he fell 7m while ziplining.

Paramedics treated a boy, understood to be aged nine, after he fell at TreeTop Challenge in Woombye about 3pm on Sunday, July 3, 2022.

Queensland Ambulance operations supervisor Lorenz Kleinberg said the child was found 50m down a track at the Big Pineapple site.

“He was awake and has been throughout the whole incident,” Mr Kleinberg said.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said the boy suffered back pain from the fall and was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

A Workplace Health and Safety Queensland spokesman said a comprehensive investigation into the incident had started with inspectors, investigators and experts from their engineering unit on site on Monday, July 4 2022.

“Relevant equipment has been seized, including part of the zip line and harness,” the spokesman said.

“At this stage, zip line activity has not resumed.”

The adventure park has locations at the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast and received several awards from TripAdvisor and Queensland Tourism.

The Sunshine Coast Daily has attempted to contact TreeTop Challenge management for comment.

The adventure park’s website showed it was crowned the gold winner in the adventure tourism category of the 2017 Queensland Tourism Awards and had won multiple recognitions from Trip Advisor.
