A former teacher and tradie couple have decided to ditch the tools and pursue their lifelong dream of operating their own bar.

Managers Mikahlia Degotardi and Kyran Holt opened the doors to their bar Muse on December 17 on Arcadia St in Noosa Heads.

Miss Degotardi said she was a manager at the popular Hawkesbury restaurant, Peats Bite, before deciding to become a teacher.

“I’ve worked in hospitality since I was 18 and working at Peats Bite was a really good experience,” she said.

“I took a break to begin teaching, which was my original career plan, but when my mum and dad said they were buying a bar in Noosa and asked us to run it we just couldn’t say no.”

Mikahlia’s parents and owners of Muse, Peter and Chrissie Degotardi, are also the owners of the popular Noosa chicken shop, Bird.

Mr Holt said starting this new chapter had been a great experience.

“Our lives have definitely all changed as two months ago I was still working at a shipyard and just a day before we opened Mikki was still teaching prep,” he said.

“We moved up from Brisbane, did some renovations and all opened as a family.

“We’re doing long hours but honestly we’ve never been happier and never been less stressed.”

The pair have applied for a live music licence and said the support had been great.

“Opening before Christmas with the challenges of Covid-19 was tough but it’s been great having those locals return for more,” Miss Degotardi said.

Along with their partnership with Bird, the menu features food from other surrounding eateries, including Steamed Buns and Telephone Call.

The European-style wine cafe is located on Arcadia St and open from midday to midnight, Wednesday to Sunday.
