A farewell for a young Sunshine Coast boy whose sudden death sparked an outpouring of grief will include an opportunity for the wider community to celebrate his life.

Kurtis Scott’s family is planning a public farewell for their beloved son, to be held on Friday afternoon.

Kurtis, 10, died suddenly on July 15.

The cause of his tragic death is still to be determined, although it is understood he passed away in his sleep.

His father, Troy Scott, said it could be some time until they had answers, but he and Kurtis’ mum Sharni and their families were focused on organising their boy’s funeral and navigating coronavirus restrictions.

Kurtis Scott's parents, Sharni and Troy, remembered their son as a funny, kind boy and the "best big brother" to their youngest son Henderson.

It is understood livestreaming may be available.

Mr Scott said a Kick for Kurtis wake would then be held at the Maroochydore Roos clubhouse at Fishermans Road in Maroochydore, which would be limited in size due to Covid-19.

From about 4pm Friday Mr Scott said they would encourage extended families, friends and anyone else in the community who wished to pay their respects to come down to the Fishermans Road complex for a kickabout in honour of their footy-mad son.

He was remembered as a much-loved member of his school community and a passionate young footballer and lifesaver, who had a zest for life and a brilliant sense of humour.
