Kurtis Scott’s parents mourn tragic death of their beloved son as tributes continue to flow

The parents of much-loved young lifesaver and footy fanatic Kurtis Scott, 10, have paid tribute to their ‘beautiful boy’ after his tragic death.

The parents of popular young lifesaver and footy fanatic Kurtis Scott have paid tribute to an “amazing kid” who was the “best big brother in the world” after his sudden death.

The 10-year-old tragically passed away on Thursday morning, sparking an outpouring of grief from tight-knit sporting and school communities for the young boy who had a love of life.

Kurtis’ dad, Troy, said he’d been inundated with messages of support from families he hadn’t even met at the school and the sporting community’s tributes had blown him away.

“He transcended all years at school from Prep to Year 6,” Mr Scott said.

“He was a beautiful kid, always checking on others.”

Mr Scott said the cause of Kurtis’ death was still unknown, but he said he understood his son had passed away in his sleep.

The family now faced arranging a funeral service while navigating current Covid-19 restrictions.

Mr Scott said they wanted to ensure the service was a celebration of his eldest son’s life.

“You look at how much he’s fit in, in 10 years, it’s amazing,” he said.

Kurtis’ mum, Sharni, said knowing how loved their precious boy was by others had given some comfort to all of his family.

“We will miss our beautiful boy Kurtis so much,” she said.

“I absolutely adore him. His gorgeous smile, his kind heart and his love for his family and friends.

“I cannot fathom days ahead without his voice, his hugs, his jokes and his laugh.”

Mr Scott said the support from his family and his ex-wife Sharni’s family had been massive, while well wishers from their hometown of Wagga Wagga had also rallied around them since Thursday.

Maroochydore Nippers competing in the Queensland Pool Rescue Championships on the Gold Coast on Saturday paid tribute to their mate with Kurtis’ initials on their arms.

Maroochydore Roos juniors also wore black armbands and held a minute’s silence for Kurtis before their games this weekend.

Mr Scott said his son had been blessed with “amazing uncles and aunties” and family friends.

“I’m just gutted for these other kids that have got to go through this (losing their mate),” Mr Scott said.

He said his sons, Kurtis and Henderson, had been “brought up on the classics”, with Grinspoon’s Guide to Better Living one of his favourite albums, while Star Wars Lego was another hit.

“He (Kurtis) loved watching Friends with his mum too,” Mr Scott said.

Ms Scott said she couldn’t imagine ‘Hendy’ not having his loving brother to grow up with.

“But I would like to thank those who have offered and shown support,” she added.

Mr Scott said his son was a “very, very funny kid” who loved to test out his jokes on adults at barbecues.

He said the community support had been “unbelievable” and thanked his work colleagues for their assistance.

“We just can’t thank everyone enough for their support,” Mr Scott said.

“He was a very social kid. He just loves his family. He was the best big brother in the world.”
