Mourners have gathered to farewell a boy “ahead of his time” in a touching funeral service for young lifesaver and footy fan Kurtis Scott.

A Star Wars stormtrooper in a Richmond jersey, a Green Day CD and a Maroochydore Roos jersey, along with an album of photos of friends were among the items placed alongside his casket, as Father Brendan Gormley paid tribute to a boy “ahead of his time”.

The popular 10-year-old died suddenly in his sleep on July 15, 2021, with a cause of death still to be determined.

His tragic passing sparked an outpouring of tributes for the much-loved youngster.

His parents, Sharni and Troy and little brother Henderson bravely paid tribute to their “Blurty” at Gregson and Weight in Maroochydore on Friday morning, as mourners gathered to pay their respects and celebrate his young life.

Ms Scott spoke of her boy who was so full of life, love and laughter and how her favourite sound in the world had been listening to Kurtis and Henderson’s laughter.

“You loved a lot of things my beautiful boy, but most of all you loved your family,” Ms Scott said.

She spoke of her son’s wisdom, how he’d taught her the importance of laughter and the impact his kindness had on so many people.

She recalled her last day with her son.

“The beaming grin on your face as you walked to back gate with your mates is something I’ll never forget,” Ms Scott said.

“I will forever treasure it.”

She spoke of the impact her son’s life had on the world around him and his ability to brighten the lives of so many others.

“Fly high my beautiful boy and please watch over us, you are in my heart always,” she said.

“I love you Kurtis, now and forever.”

Mr Scott followed, recalling his amazement at how his son had communicated with the world “from day one”.

“He just had an amazing attitude, he was such good company,” Mr Scott said.

Mr Scott spoke of his son’s love of sports including footy and lifesaving as a Maroochydore Nipper and the love so many sporting groups had shown him, urging others to get involved with local clubs.

He recounted one of Kurtis’ favourite stories and vowed that he and Ms Scott would get through the grief.

Mr Scott said it had been a rough two weeks, but the support they’d been shown had been enormous.

“I really believe he’s in an amazing place,” Mr Scott said.

Henderson bravely stood alongside his parents as they each addressed the crowd.

Family friend Greg Gladman urged mourners to make sure they embraced the everyday things and told Troy and Sharni they had the support of everyone, whenever they needed it.

“Kurtis mate, I’m going to miss you, you’re a little champion and always will be,” he said.

Slide shows reminded the crowd of the incredible character Kurtis was.

A video of him blasting a tee shot down the fairway, followed with “and that’s how you do it”, was met with laughter from the crowd who had gathered to celebrate Kurtis’ life.

Fr Gormley led prayers for Kurtis, as he urged the young boy to “fly high, little Roo”.

The community has been urged to join family and friends at the Maroochydore Roos Aussie rules club at Fishermans Road, Maroochydore from about 3.45pm Friday, July 30, for a ‘Kick for Kurtis’ to celebrate the life of the much-loved youngster.
