Legends of the Richmond Football Club and lifelong friends have come together to celebrate the life of young lifesaver Kurtis Scott and support his family.
Kurtis, 10, was farewelled in a touching funeral service on Friday, July 30, before hundreds of people turned out at Maroochydore Roos Aussie rules club to honour the popular young lifesaver and footy fanatic.
Kurtis’ dad, Troy, estimated there would have been 500 to 600 people at the footy grounds on Friday afternoon.
Richmond Tigers legend and club captain Trent Cotchin had reached out via video to pass on his support to Kurtis’ mum Sharni, dad Troy and younger brother Henderson and let them know the footy club was thinking of them as they dealt with the loss of their “mad tiger” fan Kurtis.
“We’re all thinking of you today,” Cotchin said on Friday.
Tigers coach Damien ‘Dimma’ Hardwick also expressed his condolences on behalf of the club and offered support to the family moving forward.
“I can’t imagine what you’re going through, what I do want you to know is that you’re certainly in our thoughts and you’ll be in our prayers,” Hardwick said.
“Moving forward, if there is anything you need please don’t hesitate to reach out.
“We can’t imagine your pain at this time of need but know that our thoughts are certainly with you and your family. Take care and look after each other.”
Mr Scott said the videos had been “awesome” shows of support for his family which was a long-time Richmond family.
He said his brother-in-law had arranged the video messages which left his youngest son Henderson “absolutely pumped”.
Mr Scott said he and the family wanted to thank all who had attended Friday afternoon’s event at Fishermans Road, which had been “all about Henderson” and helping him after the loss of his best mate and older brother.
