Fatal crash in Buderim

Two young men had no chance of survival when the car they were travelling in came off a winding Sunshine Coast road and smashed into several trees and bushland.

Police and emergency crews rushed to the scene on Lindsay Rd, Buderim, after reports of a car having driven off a 10m embankment about 5.30pm on Tuesday.

But Police District Duty Officer Steve Hall said all help was to no avail.

The driver of the black Mazda sedan, 21-year-old Buderim man Jarvis Snailham, and his 19-year-old Narangba passenger, died at the scene.

Investigators are asking for anyone that may have seen the vehicle, or anyone with relevant dash-cam to contact police.

“Both occupants were trapped inside the vehicle for an extended period of time,” he said.

“QPS, advanced care paramedics and a doctor all attended the scene and no signs of life were found by any of those practitioners.”

The wreckage was found 40m into bushland in a residential area after coming off the windy road and smashing into several trees.

Emergency crews had to cut open the roof in a bid to gain access to the car’s occupants.

Lindsay Road was closed for several hours as the tow truck company retrieved the wreckage from the thick bushland.

“It’s quite a dangerous situation where it is and it’s a windy road so we just need to make it safe for the tow truck operators to retrieve the vehicle,” Senior Sergeant Hall said.

The crash happened in a 60km/h zone.

The forensic crash unit was also at the scene to investigate the incident.

Senior Sergeant Steve Hall said it was still too early to determine the cause.

But he used the crash to remind other motorists to drive to the road conditions.

“Drivers need to remind themselves to drive to the road conditions, whether it’s wet or it’s curving (roads),” he said

“ Adhere to the fatal five, don’t drink-drive and wear your seatbelt. Your driving behaviour is what lets you down in these type of situations.”

Earlier on Tuesday, a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said the car had crashed down a 10m embankment before hitting a tree off Lindsay Rd just before 6pm.

The spokesman said firefighters had to tow the car away from the tree before cutting its roof off so paramedics could access the occupants.

The spokesman said three crews were on the scene.

Queensland Ambulance later tweeted paramedics were assessing two patients for critical injuries.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the crash was “serious”.

The crash comes just an hour after a patient, believed to be a motorbike rider, was rushed to hospital after a collision with a car on Mons School Road, Buderim, at 4.30pm.

The patient was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with a serious leg injury.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the forensic crash unit was investigating the collision.
