Fatal crash in Buderim

A 19-year-old Narangba man has been identified as the second victim of a horrific double fatal car crash in Buderim as his mates and family try to come to terms with the devastating loss.

Bailey Bennett, 19, and Buderim man Jarvis Snailham, 21, died instantly when the black Mazda they were travelling in crashed off a 10m embankment along Lindsay Rd, Buderim, about 5.30pm on Tuesday.

The shattering loss of the two young men has shocked those close to them, changing their lives forever.

Ally Starkey said her best mate Mr Bennett, also known as Bailey Kyle, was “such a down to earth person”.

“It still doesn’t feel real,” she said.

“Bailey was always there for me, and I was there for him.

“He looked at me like a little sister, and he was like my big brother.”

Ms Starkey said Mr Bennett would always put a smile on her face, and would never forget their time at the Deception Bay waterfront while sharing music.

“He’s the realest friend and truest friend I’ve ever had,” she said.

“Bailey was passionate about his mates, and about music.

“You could talk about anything with him, and he never let anyone down.”

Ms Starkey said she wanted to plan a get together for Mr Bennett’s mates at the Burpengary skatepark on Saturday to celebrate his life.

Another close friend Sara Peters said Mr Bennett was someone who would “always make her smile” no matter what.

“I’m still trying to process all of this still,” she said.

“It still doesn’t feel real.

“I wake up everyday and think he’s still there.”

Mr Snailham’s neighbour of five years Troy Sutherland fought back tears while visiting the crash site on Wednesday morning.

“Jarvis was outgoing and bubbly,” he said.

“He always wanted to be doing stuff and loved to have a good old chat.”

Mr Sutherland said the 21-year-old, due to celebrate his 22nd birthday in four days, was looking forward to starting a new job on Thursday.

“Every time we saw him he’d say ‘I can't wait to start work’,” he said.

“He was a good person.”

Lindsay Rd resident of five years and former doctor Colin Case and his wife, who asked not to be named, were working on their letterbox when they saw the black Mazda “fly off the road”.

“It all happened so fast,” Mr Case’s wife said.

“I looked up and this car just came around the bend, lost control and shot straight out into the forest.”

Mr Case said he didn’t hesitate to run down to the car to see if he could help, but quickly realised there was nothing he could do.

He said he had been to a number of fatal crashes but described the accident as the worst he had seen.

“It was just unbelievable the way this car had smashed,” Mr Case said.

The residents were visibly shaken by the accident.

“Those are the sons of some beautiful parents and now they don’t have their children,” Mr Case’s wife said.

The road was notorious among locals with crashes a fairly common occurrence.

Fire and rescue crews had to tow the car away from a tree and cut its roof off before paramedics could access the men who were trapped inside on Tuesday night.

Sunshine Coast Police District Duty Officer Steve Hall said advanced care paramedics and a doctor had all attended but the two men tragically died at the scene.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed Mr Snailham had been driving the car at the time of the tragedy.

Investigators are asking for anyone that may have seen the vehicle, or anyone with relevant dashcam to contact police.
