Nine vehicle pile-up on Bruce Highway

Drivers have been urged to drive to the conditions following a nine-vehicle pile up at the Bruce Hwy as the south-east was smashed by wet weather.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at the Bruce Hwy southbound at Meridan Plains, two kilometres south of the Caloundra interchange, after the crash was reported around 1.40pm.

The highway was closed for about three hours and eight people were rushed to hospital in stable conditions.

Clayton’s Towing Service’s Dean Ryan said it was one of the biggest crashes he had ever attended.

“There were a couple of trucks, couple of cars, and a caravan involved, there would be over $1m there in damage,” Mr Ryan said.

He said it was lucky no one was seriously injured.
