Maryborough crash: 17-year-old male killed in crash at Thinoomba

A Maryborough teenager has died after the 4WD he was driving left the road and struck trees at Thinoomba.

Police said the white Nissan Patrol was travelling east on Maryborough Biggenden Rd at Thinoomba at 6.55pm on Saturday, September 2 when it left the road and hit a number of trees near the intersection with Geysing Rd.

The driver and sole occupant, who was 17 years old, died at the scene.

The police investigation continues.

Anyone who saw the crash or the four-wheel drive in the moments before the crash, or who has footage of the incident, should come forward via Policelink or Crime Stoppers.

Locals have posted messages of sympathy after the crash.

Sharon Hepburn wrote: “My condolences to his family and friends. RIP mate your life was cut to short. My heart is breaking for your family and friends.’’

Another suggested there had been a lot of big kangaroos and cattle on the roads recently.

It comes after a crash which shut down the Bruce Highway between Maryborough and Childers on Saturday.

Two fire crews were dispatched from Maryborough at 9.25am in response to reports of three people trapped in a vehicle on highway at the corner of Howard Heights Rd.

When crews arrived about 9.49am, they found two vehicles in the middle of the Bruce Highway, with one vehicle on its roof and another on its side with one of the occupants still trapped inside.

QFES rescue crews removed the roof of the car with hydraulic cutting gear and freed the person at 10.17am.

A Queensland Ambulance Services spokeswoman said the patient who was freed from the car was transported to Hervey Bay hospital in a stable condition along with another patient reporting neck pain.

Two other patients reporting neck pain were transported to Maryborough Hospital in a stable condition, with two others involved in the crash declining medical treatment.
