Plans for upgrades to the Kingaroy Memorial Park were revealed on Wednesday as South Burnett Regional Council locked in more than $320,000 for the project.
In the 2022 to 2023 Capital Works budget meeting on Wednesday council allocated $321,450 for the park’s developments and agreed that $320,443 will be spent on constructing four picnic shelters, two BBQ shelters on Haly Street, one new shelter within the children’s play area and six new concrete slabs with picnic tables.
Council conducted a community survey to learn what residents wanted most.
Council facilities and parks manager Leanne Petersen said the priority was to look at the redevelopment of picnic areas and the old concrete tables and chairs along Williams Street.
“There was a big interest in having them removed and replaced with new facilities,” Mrs Petersen said.

“There’s also a proposal for a new shelter with more tables and chairs in the existing playground area that is always booked out for birthday parties.
“This would add another facility in there for the community to utilise.”
Mrs Petersen said surveyors and her team were awaiting council’s direction to begin works in the new financial year.

“Being able to increase the usage of the park for young people is really important,” Mrs Schumacher said.
“It’ll make a real difference to the way the park looks and feels.
“The footpath is important infrastructure for people with disabilities, which was a key desired outcome.”
The motion was carried five votes to one by council.
