A residential street in the heart of the Burnett was the scene of a lengthy stand-off, with police cars blocking the street while officers negotiated with a person inside one of the houses.

A 26-year-old old man armed with a crossbow was surrounded by police following a six hour siege on Sunday in Nanango.

A Queensland police spokeswoman said police attended a domestic violence related matter at the usually peaceful residential Wickham St property at 12noon. Police cars blocked the street.

“Police negotiated with the man and no one was injured,” the spokeswoman said.

“After 7pm he was taken to Kingaroy hospital.”

She said the man suffered from mental health problems.

Investigations are ongoing.
