Cormorant Bay Cafe is perched among the gum trees, high above the sparkling waters of the dam.

Nanango LNP MP Deb Frecklington described the cafe as a much-loved and iconic asset for the community.

“I receive regular inquiries from people asking about what is happening with the building,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“The community deserves to know what is going on,” she said.

Mrs Frecklington said she shared the community’s concerns about the cafe’s deteriorating condition.

“These works never occurred and since then I have asked questions year after year about Seqwater’s plans for the building and whether it will be redeveloped.

Regional Development Minister Glenn Butcher said Seqwater was supportive of Somerset Regional Council’s investigations into the future of the Cormorant Bay Café.

“Seqwater is prepared to undertake the required structural remediation works, provided council agrees to undertake the fit-out, secure a tenant and reopen the building as a café or restaurant,” Mr Butcher said.

“Seqwater will work with council to keep the community informed,” he said.

Mrs Frecklington said Cormorant Bay Café was a state-government owned asset and the state government needed to acknowledge the poor way the project had been handled.

Somerset Regional Council has been contacted for comment.
