Sian Patricia Ellen Newberry, 32, pleaded guilty in the Kingaroy District Court on Friday to two counts of unlawfully supplying dangerous drugs, one count of supplying dangerous drugs and one count of possessing dangerous drugs.

Police operation uncovers Murgon drug addict’s meth dealing

The court heard Newberry supplied 0.2g of methamphetamines and a total of 27g of cannabis in November 2021, March 2022 and April 2022.

Crown prosecutor Darcy Evans said Newberry was remanded in custody for six days after her arrest in April 2022.

“The defendant trafficked cannabis for over one month, supplied on eight occasions and had seven regular customers,” Mr Evans said.

“It is a low level street trafficking, unsophisticated and the turnover was minimal.

“She made full admissions to police after a house search where they found her phone and a journal.”

Newberry sold methamphetamines on behalf of someone else and was allowed to keep an unknown amount of methamphetamines for personal use, the court heard.

Mr Evans told the court Newberry was in her current situation because she needed money.

Defence barrister Francis Martin said Newberry only made $400 in profit during her offending.

“This has affected the relationship she has with her children,” Mr Martin said.

“She’s self medicated with cannabis for mental health problems.”

Judge Nicole Kefford said Newberry’s early plea would be taken into consideration.

“The admissions go further than what police found and your cooperation with police is a matter I take into account in your favour,” Ms Kefford said.

“Drugs cause so many problems in our community, those who supply it facilitate the difficulties that are caused in society.”

Newberry was sentenced to 18 months’ prison with immediate parole.

Convictions were recorded.
