Kingaroy, Bundaberg to welcome Head to Health services

Bundaberg and Kingaroy will welcome improved government funded access to mental health support following a $107.9 million dollar announcement.

Bundaberg and Kingaroy residents will have improved access to government funded mental health support following a $107.9 million dollar boost.

The funding will establish Head to Health services, which will include 20 new services for adults and two new services for children and families across Queensland, with Kingaroy welcoming these services by the end of the year.

Bundaberg will get the service in 2024.

It will expand on the existing mental health support network making it easier for Queensland residents to access mental health, drug and alcohol services among others.

“These services will provide a range of specialist medical and allied health services for children under 12 experiencing developmental, mental health, behavioural or emotional challenges, and their families,” the Minister Health’s Office said.

“Services are fully government-funded and provided by multidisciplinary care teams, including psychiatrists, psychologists, paediatricians, nurses, social workers, peer support workers and First Nations health workers.”

The Head to Health services have been designed in consultation with communities and local service provides along with advice from the Aboriginal community Controlled Health Organisations.

The services are expected to be totally operational by 2027 with a progressive rollout.

Queensland Minister Health and Ambulance Services Yvette D’Ath welcomed the services.

“Investment in Head to Health Kids services will provide holistic wrap around mental health and wellbeing care to support a better start for our youngest and most vulnerable Queenslanders and their families,” she said.

“Expanding Head to Health for adults will assist people to navigate services and find the mental health supports that best meet their needs.”

The Assistant Minister Emma McBride backed the service roll out, saying mental health care should be accessible to all Australians.

“These new Head to Health services will make it easier for individuals, families and carers to access mental health and wellbeing support,” she said.

“I look forward to working with the Queensland Government to make sure no one is left behind in the care system of the Sunshine State. ”
