Police on Monday stopped short of confirming they were following any new leads in the tragic disappearance of Jack McLennan four months ago.
The 27-year-old personal trainer was last seen at Ficks Crossing near Murgon on October 4, 2024, where he spent the day drinking and relaxing with a friend.
In the months since his sudden disappearance, police have conducted air, land and water searches and recovered some of his personal belongings, including his shoes, hat and his wallet.
His family have been active in the search for him over the past four months, as well as offering a cash reward of $5000 for any new information into his whereabouts.
At a vigil held in Jack’s honour at Fick’s Crossing on Saturday, February 8, 2025, his mum Kellie Moody told Channel 7 police had new information about a possible search location for her son.
“The police have new information, credible information, that leads to this spot,” Ms Moody said.
Posts on social media by supporters of the family said “there is a new search to begin” and “if Jack is where it’s been suggested he is, then bloody hell more resources are needed”.
However, police would not confirm on Monday if they had received new information about the case or if they were investigating fresh developments.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said they would continue to investigate any potential new lines of inquiry but did not verify the claims made by Ms Moody or others on Facebook.
“Police have conducted an extensive search for missing person Jack McLennan in accordance with best practice state search guidelines,” they said.
“To date those searches have included significant resources from the Queensland Police Service, SES and members of the public.
“Police continue to encourage any members of the community to report information that may assist in the location of Jack to Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.”
The family, their supporters and members of the public have been searching a large area where Mr McLennan was last seen and the surrounds since his disappearance.
On Sunday, February 9, Ms Moody turned to social media to ask for help accessing helicopters, drones or horses to search the Goomeri area, which is potentially the new search area that has been reported.
The family and their supporters have continued to plea for improved communication from Murgon police, including from Detective Chris Wheatle, who was the lead investigator on the case.

The QPS spokesperson said they would continue to update the family and that regular updates were provided to them.
“Police will continue to investigate any new potential lines of inquiry relating to this matter and any further updates will be provided to the family as a matter of priority,” they said.
“There is a dedicated family liaison officer appointed to Jack’s next of kin and continual regular updates are provided to them, specifically Jack’s mother.”
Mr McLennan was 27 at the time of his disappearance, about 185cm tall with light brown hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and dark shorts.
