A mother of four has been convicted of 36 offences, including threatening a wheelchair bound person with a knife at the local pub.

Olga Lucille Chambers, 35, pleaded guilty on Friday, November 10, to stealing, multiple breaches of bail, assault occasioning bodily harm while armed and intoxicated and the serious assault of a person in a wheelchair.

The Kingaroy Magistrates Court heard while Chambers was drinking at the Australian Hotel in Murgon on Thursday, November 9, she became disruptive and was told to leave by the manager.

She became abusive towards staff and patrons while walking around the hotel and refusing to leave the premises.

Chambers then entered the hotel kitchen, a restricted area, and stole a black handled steak knife which she proceeded to swing at people.

The court was told staff and patrons were afraid someone was going to be stabbed.

Chambers then went up to two sitting patrons, one of them in a wheelchair, and threatened “I’ll stab you,” it heard.

She had the knife about two feet (.6m) away from the victim in the wheelchair.

“Each of those victims were in fear for their lives,” the prosecution said.

After leaving the pub about 5pm, Chambers started yelling across the street to a woman, calling out to fight her.

The woman did not know Chambers and told her multiple times to go away, the court was told.

Chambers then walked up to the victim and punched her. The court heard the victim fought back but Chambers grabbed her by the hair and repeatedly punched her in the face.

After the fight ended Chambers picked up a coke can and threw it at the victim, striking her in the face.

The victim had a chunk of her hair pulled out and a bloody nose from the assault, the court heard.

When police managed to track down Chambers on the main street in Murgon, she became verbally abusive towards them, yelling and calling them a “snitch” and “dogs” along with other vulgar language, the court heard.

She was arrested and faced Kingaroy court the next day, pleading guilty to all charges.

She also pleaded guilty to attempting to steal a carton of cigarettes and a bag of groceries at the Murgon Fruit Mart in January as well as stealing lamb chops from the Murgon IGA.

In March she also stole a carton of liquor from the Australian Hotel drive through. She distracted the shop assistant while her friend took the liquor and left without paying. Chambers refused to name her accomplice but pleaded guilty to stealing.

She also pleaded guilty to multiple breaches of bail.

Lawyer Babu Singh told the court Chambers had four children aged four to 15 and had raised them on her own while her partner was in jail.

Chambers had a “totally broken” family unit now, he said.

“Alcohol took the better of her life.”

Chambers will be sentenced at a later date.
