A critical milestone has been reached in the court case against Nanango man Walter Evan McBryde, who is accused of driving while intoxicated and causing the death of a jogger.
Police alleged the 52-year-old was travelling along Nanango Brooklands Rd when his Ford Falcon struck a young Sunshine Coast father, Bryce Williams, who left behind a 10-month-old boy and three-year-old girl.
Following an extensive police investigation, Mr McBryde was charged with the dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.
He was also charged with failing to stop immediately at an incident and exhibit proper respect to the deceased, showing a callous disregard for the needs of a person injured, and failing to remain at an accident.
Mr McBryde’s case was mentioned at the Nanango Magistrates Court on Monday, October 9, where his indictable offence of dangerous driving causing death, was committed to a higher court.
The crown prosecution and man’s legal team are yet to set a date for when the indictable offence will be heard at the Kingaroy District Court.
Once the most serious charge is finalised, Mr McBryde’s remaining charges will be dealt with at the Nanango Magistrates Court on September 16, 2024.
He first appeared at the Nanango Magistrates Court on March 13 and was granted bail.
