Police are treating the death of a man following a “stabbing” incident at a home in Kingaroy on Sunday as “not suspicious”.

A statement was issued on Wednesday night after the man aged in his 30s died in the Kingaroy Hospital on Sunday, March 10, following an incident at a home on the corner of Haly Street and First Avenue that left him with a deadly injury to his upper body.

The man presented to the hospital at 4.40am after suffering the injury, but he died a short time later.

The residential street on the corner of Haly St and First Avenue in the heart of Kingaroy was covered in police officers and police tape on Sunday, but by Thursday morning, four days later, the tape had gone, washing was drying on the clothes line and peace had returned.

Some neighbours were still unaware anything so dramatic had happened in their community.

It was the second stabbing incident in less than a month in Kingaroy, after a 42-year-old man received a laceration to his throat in an apparently random attack at his home about 1km away on February 17.

That alleged attacker is still at large, and the victim has survived.

However, police stressed there was no threat to the public from the latest incident and by Wednesday afternoon they said were treating the death as “non-suspicious.”

“Police investigating the sudden death of a man in Kingaroy on March 10 are treating the death as non-suspicious,” the statement said.

“Around 4.40am, police responded to reports a man in his 30s had presented to Kingaroy Hospital with a life-threatening stab wound.

“He was pronounced deceased a short time later.”

Other neighbours said they didn’t know the residents of the house where it occurred, and rarely saw them about, but were shaken by the incident.

Police will now prepare a report for the coroner.
