A Cherbourg man has been charged with carrying out a terrifying home invasion, which left a Kingaroy couple too afraid to sleep in their own home for days after they were robbed at knifepoint.

Police will allege the 20-year-old unlawfully entered the Gladys Street home on the night of February 19 and threatened the couple with a knife, demanding they hand over their car keys.

The man allegedly took the keys, a phone and wallet and attempted to drive off in their car, however he was unable to figure out the steering wheel lock.

He then allegedly stole and later abandoned a car from another address, before stealing a car from a third property.

Police say this car was used to steal petrol from a Kingaroy service station and then driven to Cherbourg, where it was found by police.

Previously speaking to the South Burnett Times, alleged victims Elaine and Paul Marjoram said they were still coping with the immediate trauma and even contemplating selling their home out of fear they’ll never feel safe there again.

The man was charged with 12 offences, including armed robbery, burglary, break and enter, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing, obstructing police and driving without a licence.

He was refused police bail on March 2 and will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court at a later date.
