A frustrated shopper has landed himself in court after he lashed out and attacked the automatic door at a Rockhampton shopping centre when it would not open for him to leave.
Samuel Jacob Bryon Stubbs, 22, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 26 to one count of wilful damage.
Police prosecutor Sergeant David Longhurst said Stubbs first attempted to pry the automatic door open with his hand at the entrance of Parkhurst Town Centre on August 27 at 4.15pm after it did not open when he tried to leave the centre.
Sgt Longhurst said Stubbs then kicked the bottom panel of the door before being alerted by a member of the public to press the green button on the door, which he also kicked.
He said Stubbs had damaged the tracks of the door but police did not have a quote for the damage.
Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady said her client was frustrated at the time.
Ms Legrady said she was instructed by her client that he had been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, ADHD and also had brain tumours.
Stubbs was ordered to pay $350 compensation to AHC Limited.
A criminal conviction was recorded.
