Police have charged a 17-year-old after a teacher was allegedly robbed of their vehicle in the Central Queensland town of Woorabinda at the weekend and going on a crime spree in Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast.

Four people from Woorabinda allegedly used force against a schoolteacher in the community, who was more than 60 years old, and stole his car on Saturday, November 11.

Some of the alleged offences committed by the group included a break and enter at Raffles Hotel in Rockhampton, an attempt at The Lionleigh Pub and a further break and enter at Pine Beach Hotel in Emu Park.

Speaking to media on Thursday, November 16, Detective Acting Inspector Luke Peachey said a 17-year-old male was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon and had been charged.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the 17-year-old was charged with one count each of armed robbery, enter dwelling, serious assault and unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and was due to appear in Rockhampton Children’s Court on Thursday.

Detective Acting Inspector Peachey said police were still chasing the three others involved.

“We are very confident we know the identity of these three people and we will have them in custody in the short term,” he said.

“It’s disturbing and concerning, the fact they are not even trying to conceal their identity, it appears they just don’t care.”

He said the group were also believed to be responsible for further alleged property offences throughout Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast on Monday, including an attempted car theft in Emu Park.

The alleged offending happened just one day after two toddlers tragically lost their lives after they were found in a car in Woorabinda.
